One of the world’s largest manufacturers of nuts, saddles, and bridge pins in the guitar industry, which has product factories installed in 40+ countries based in Canada, has approached us to send their customer’s sales data in graphical format. When dealing with large sales and having a good relationship with their customers, having efficient reports on their purchase data is good for efficient analysis.

Problem Statement 

Our client faced a challenge in maintaining effective communication with their customers regarding sales data. Their customers regularly purchased products monthly, and the client needed to provide them with clear, detailed reports of their purchases. These reports were required: 

On a monthly, yearly or even custom date range basis. 

To include comparisons with the previous quarter’s data. 

In an easy-to-understand graphical format, sent directly via email. 

The goal was to ensure the data was relevant, visually appealing, and easy for their diverse customer base to analyze, particularly customers from multiple locations or subsidiaries using different currencies. 

What We Suggested

To address the client’s requirements, we proposed a custom solution within the NetSuite ERP environment. The solution involved: 

1) Custom Records Creation: 

Designed records to store and manage customer-specific sales data effectively. 

Enabled filtering to determine which data to send to selected customers.

2) Automated Graphical Report Generation: 

Used advanced JavaScript libraries for creating visually appealing charts and graphs. 

Provided a single-click option to email these reports in a chosen graphical format.

3) Currency Adaptation: 

Integrated automatic currency conversion for global customers. 

Ensured accurate data representation for customers across multiple locations or subsidiaries. 

4) Customization Options: 

Provided the ability to change chart styles (e.g., bar, line, or pie charts) based on individual preferences. 

The amounts were displayed with comma-separated values for easy reference (e.g., in thousands, millions). This was an add-on request we received.

Challenges

One of the primary challenges encountered during this project was the graphical representation of the data retrieved. Even though NetSuite saved searches can find all the data, converting it into graphs is something that needs to be handled through SuiteScripts. But don’t worry—we have a dedicated team to handle this, turning challenges into smooth developments!

With this NetSuite customization, the client could now generate and email visually appealing reports with a single click. The automated data calculations reduced manual errors, and graphical representations enhanced customer understanding.
